The most revered spirit in China.
The most revered spirit in China.
Born over 500 years ago in China's Guizhou (Kweichow) Province, Moutai has held a special place in the hearts of Chinese people and plays a central role in Chinese culture. A symbol of friendship prized by international dignitaries, it is the first choice used by government officials and business elites to entertain distinguished counterparts both foreign and domestic. It is the beverage of choice for celebrating the successful union of partnerships and presented to all official guests of the state. Historically, Moutai played a significant role for the diplomatic relationship between U.S. and China. Henry Kissinger once famously remarked to then-president Deng Xiaoping, "I think if we drink enough Moutai, we can solve anything." President Nixon drank it with the Chinese Prime Minister during his visit to China in 1972, and Chinese President Xi drank it with President Obama during his visit to the United States in 2013.
The brewing of Moutai is a complex process passed down for generations. Naturally produced starter culture and premium wheat harvested only during the Dragon Boat Festival is mixed with organic sorghum and then carefully fermented and distilled over 7 cycles. The entire production process takes a year to complete, and the distillate collected is then aged for 3 years or more. To achieve the peerless aroma and flavor of Moutai, over 200 base liquors from different years with different fragrances must be blended to achieve the desirable balance. Moutai is strictly a blend of liquors; even distilled water is not added to the product during the production process. This makes it a one-of-a-kind premium baijiu.
Moutai is bold, well-balanced, and complex with a very long finish. It is traditionally consumed during meals and served in half-ounce shot glasses. It pairs well with foods that have heavier flavors, such as stir-fried lobster with black pepper in the Asian culinary realm, and fattier dishes with strong sauces or robust flavors from roasting or grilling in Western cuisine.
Currently, there are over 200 tons of Moutai being sold to over 100 countries and regions across the world each year.
